1st October 2026Inside Open Door Issue 5: How homelessness has an impact on families
Grab a coffee and check out our latest edition of Open Door.
We are pleased to announce that the latest edition of Open Door is now available to read. Issue 5 shines a spotlight on the growing impact of homelessness on children and families across Northern Ireland, sharing powerful stories from those experiencing homelessness and the staff supporting them every day.
A huge thank you to Elaine Ellis, Accommodation Manager at Simon Community’s family temporary accommodation service Conway Court – who guest edited this edition of Open Door.
At the heart of this edition is the story of Sarah and Isaac, a family who have spent seven years living in temporary accommodation while waiting for a permanent home. Their experience provides a powerful reminder of the reality facing thousands of families across the region and the urgent need for more social and affordable housing.
Readers will also hear directly from children living in temporary accommodation, explore the work taking place at Conway Court, and learn about Simon Community’s upcoming priorities ahead of the 2027 Assembly Election. The magazine also features updates on our partnership with Progressive Building Society, details of this year’s Carols in the City event, and opportunities for supporters to help shape our work through our 2027 Supporter Survey.
As always, Open Door celebrates the compassion and commitment of our supporters while highlighting the changes needed to ensure everyone has access to a safe place to call home.
