4th June 2026Help Change the Conversation About Homelessness
The way we talk about homelessness matters.
Conversations shape how we understand the issue, influence public attitudes, and help challenge the myths and misconceptions that can often surround it. They can build understanding and inspire people to take action.
Right now, 63,426 people are experiencing homelessness across Northern Ireland. Behind every number is a person, family or young person facing challenges that are often misunderstood or unseen. That’s why having informed conversations about homelessness is more important than ever.
Simon Community is looking for Community Advocate Volunteers to help start and support those conversations in communities across Northern Ireland.
Community Advocates will play an important role in raising awareness about homelessness. Whether that is speaking to a school group, community organisation, workplace, or local club, they help people better understand the realities of homelessness and the factors that can lead someone to lose their home.
You don’t need to be an expert to get involved.
If you feel comfortable speaking with others, enjoy meeting people, or have experience communicating within groups, this could be a rewarding volunteer opportunity. Most importantly, we’re looking for people who are passionate about helping create positive change.
As a Community Advocate Volunteer, you’ll receive training, resources and ongoing support from our team. We’ll help you develop the knowledge and confidence needed to represent Simon Community and engage audiences in meaningful conversations about homelessness.
If you’re interested in learning more, we’re hosting a short online information session where you can:
- Hear more about what the Community Advocate role involves
- Learn about the training and support available to volunteers
- Ask questions in a relaxed and informal setting
- Decide whether the role feels right for you
Every conversation has the potential to challenge perceptions, increase understanding and inspire action. By becoming a Community Advocate, you can help ensure more people understand the reality of homelessness and the role we can all play in ending it.
