Christmas Appeal
No child should wake up homeless on Christmas morning.
Last Christmas, Caitlin and her newborn son Jack were staying with a friend. She had lost her home after rising rents made it impossible to keep up. Despite working hard and cutting back on essentials, she eventually had nowhere left to go.
She spent her pregnancy staying with a friend and feeling like she was taking up space, but after her baby was born, the stress became too much. With nowhere else to turn, she contacted the Housing Executive in tears. They placed her in temporary accommodation, and eventually she was referred to Simon Community’s Conway Court.
There, she found the safety and support she desperately needed, as well as the space to begin rebuilding her life.
This Christmas, things are different. Caitlin and her son have just been offered a permanent home. Jack will have his own bedroom. They’ll decorate their own tree. For the first time in a long time, they feel like they belong.
But many families in Northern Ireland are still waiting for that call with -19,657 children in Northern Ireland homeless this Christmas.
