Free Homeless Support Line call 0800 171 2222

If you are in immediate danger, always dial 999.

If you cannot safely speak to emergency services, please follow the instructions below.

The Silent Solution is a crucial service in Northern Ireland for individuals experiencing domestic abuse who cannot speak. It allows those in danger to get help without being overheard.

Here’s what to do:

Call 999: Dial 999 from a mobile phone (this service does not work from a landline)

Press 55: When prompted, press 55 to indicate a genuine emergency.

Transfer to Police: The call will be transferred to the local police, who will then attempt to communicate with the caller.

Follow Instructions: If unable to speak, listen carefully to the police’s questions and instructions.

No Location Tracking: Pressing 55 does not allow police to track the caller’s location so try and follow the instructions given.

Emergency help for someone else

If you see someone sleeping rough, consider the following steps:

Make conversation: If you feel comfortable, ask their name and situation. This can help you understand their needs better.

Check for emergencies: If the person appears to be in urgent need of medical attention or is under 18, contact the police and social services immediately by dialling 999.

Get help: Call the Housing Executive as soon as possible or go to your local Housing Executive office. Tel: 03448 920 900
