Fundraising for schools

Schools play a key role in our charity work. By partnering with us, you will help to educate the next generation on homelessness, the work of Simon Community NI and the impact fundraising can make across Northern Ireland. Reach out to our team who would be happy to come and speak at your school to get the next generation involved in ending homelessness.

In Northern Ireland

young people become homeless every day
people are officially homeless.
children are recognised as having no home

Primary schools - what we offer

We are always delighted when a primary school wants to get involved with the Simon Community NI. We have a range of offerings to suit the preference of each school and ensure the students engage in an educational and impactful experience.

An educational talk delivered in person at your school to help spread awareness and understanding of Homelessness in NI.

Our dedicated Schools Co-ordinator will provide a fun, interactive talk with your pupils via video conferencing, finishing with a Q&A session.

A colourful, educational PowerPoint presentation for primary school teachers to show.

Each of the above will be age-appropriate and feature our mascot, SIMON bear.

They will all include what makes a house a home, what it means to be homeless and how Simon Community helps.

As a thank-you, schools that fundraise for us will receive their very own SIMON Bear as a reminder of their fundraising efforts and kind support and a certificate of thanks. Choose one of our suggested events or organise your own, and we will support you along the way.

Secondary schools

We know how important it is to ensure our future generation of changemakers are informed, engaged and inspired. That is why we are always thrilled to work with secondary schools across the country.

Our dedicated schools co-ordinator will provide a PowerPoint presentation for teachers. This can be used in year groups, assemblies or as part of a lesson in citizenship, LLW, Religious Studies or English.

We can also provide a Q&A session by video conferencing or by email. A fundraiser may also come to give a talk in person, should circumstances allow.

Should you decide to fundraise for us, we can provide you with stickers, wristbands, buckets, sponsorship forms, leaflets etc. We will also be there to advise and support you all the way.

Fundraising ideas and inspiration

Hold a bucket collection in your school or classrooms and raise vital funds to help end homelessness in Northern Ireland? Simply pop a donation in the bucket/tin and have a sticker to show your support. We can provide you with balloons, stickers, branded buckets or donation tins. We can also provide Simon Community labels so you can brand your own collection buckets. Alternatively, have a sale of Simon Community wristbands, which will be supplied free of charge for your convenience.

Hold a non-uniform day where all students get involved by donating and wearing something red to show their support for the Simon Community.

Hold a collection at your school assembly, talent show or concert to raise money in support of the Simon Community NI.

The Simon Community presentation was so informative – at the right pitch for teenagers. What really struck a chord with our young people was that this is a real problem in N Ireland and it can happen to anyone regardless of age, gender or background.

C Sleeth – Integrated College, Dungannon

An invaluable insight on an issue that can not be ignored.

D Agnew – Wellington College, Belfast

Thank you for the talk you gave our children. The presentation was very informative, and the children were engaged and asking lots of interesting questions. We can’t wait to raise funds for Simon Community NI.

Your stories

As a single dad, life changed drastically when I became the full-time caregiver for my two young children. At first, we were living between friends’ and family members’ homes, but it became clear we needed a more stable solution. After contacting the Housing Executive, we ended up in a hotel—our “home” for five challenging weeks.
