According to the UN it International Women’s Day is “a day when women are recognised for the achievements without regards to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political. It is an occasion for looking back on past struggles and accomplishments, and more importantly, for looking ahead to the untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women”
As an organisation we work closely with vulnerable women who are homeless or facing homelessness. They often have complex needs, which we access quickly and implement individual support programmes. The rising number of women facing homelessness is staggering; on any one day almost 25% of clients in our hostels are female, including those under the age of 18 and those who stay with young children.
As with the majority of caring occupations the majority of our support workers are also female and at Simon Community NI they often have to deal with complex situations, we admire and recognise the hard work they do each and every day, and the real difference they make to the lives of others. It is our aim to continue to tailor the women’s support services we offer, to the benefit of both our female clients and support workers.
On this International Women’s Day – a day of global celebrations, which mark the social economic and political progress of women across the world. We at Simon Community work together to ensure equality right across our entire organisation. We will #PressforProgress.
