The Tenancy Deposit Scheme can support clients aged 18+ who are homeless/at risk of homelessness and have low prospects of social housing, to access the private rental sector. The aim of the TDS is to make private rental a reality for individuals and families, by providing a grant to cover some of the deposit needed to secure a home.
What to expect?
Once a referral is submitted, a member of the Housing Solutions Team will assess your circumstances, support needs and calculate affordability. They will then advise of the next steps to avail of the grant. In the event that a grant cannot be awarded, we will give advice and signpost to other support services.

- Advice on how to search for potential properties
- Liaising with landlord/letting agents
- Advice on applying for Housing Costs
- Applying for Discretionary Support
- Signposting to other support services
How to access the service?
This service is suitable for individuals aged 18+ who are homeless or at risk of homeless and would like to access private rental. Existing Simon Community clients should speak with their Support Worker to be nominated for the scheme.
External organisations can complete the Nomination Form and email it to the TDS inbox, this form can be requested from the Homeless Advice Line 0800 171 2222.
