Cory, a Simon support worker and wellbeing champion works with clients across a range of areas including mental health, physical health, housing, drug and alcohol issues and promoting independence and living skills. His role as well-being champion allows him to organise activities, seminars, and initiatives to promote positive well-being for clients and fellow staff members.
Cory has always been passionate about supporting and offering help to those in need. With a master’s in psychology, he is particularly passionate about promoting positive mental health. Cory became a wellbeing champion at Flush Park towards the end of February 2022.
“I was very interested in the role as I am passionate about promoting positive mental and physical well-being not only for my clients but also my fellow staff members.”
Since joining the champions, Cory has organised several seminars for clients on a range of topics that will benefit their wellbeing, such as nutrition, smoking cessation, sexual health, and efficient energy use. Cory has also organised activities for colleagues like the conqueror step challenge, where the Flush Park team walked the length of The Great Wall of China in the space of 2 weeks! Cory’s work doesn’t stop there, he continues to plan activities for clients and co-workers. His latest project is getting clients to bake and donate goods to local care homes, hoping to instill the values of giving back to our supporters and a sense of belonging to the wider community.
“My work at the Simon Community is particularly important to me as I get to work closely with people who have become homeless, I feel that as a group the homeless are often marginalised by society and they often feel like the world has turned its back on them. It is because of this that I am proud to work at the Simon Community and offer support to those who need it most.”
