Nowhere to call home this Christmas

Today, your gift could help provide safe accommodation, practical support and vital services for young people experiencing homelessness.

Imagine being 19 years old and feeling unable to plan beyond today.

This Christmas, almost 10,000 young people aged 18-25 in Northern Ireland are experiencing homelessness. While many of us look forward to spending the festive season with loved ones, too many young people are facing uncertainty, isolation and insecurity.

Your support can help provide safety, support and hope when it is needed most.

At Simon Community, we meet young people every day whose experiences remind us just how important a safe home and supportive relationships are.

One young girl, still in her teens, living in Simon Community’s young persons’ service told us that after her dad died, she spent much of her childhood worrying about her brothers and sisters rather than enjoying being a child herself. Today, at just 19 years old, she is living in temporary accommodation and facing an uncertain future.

Yet despite everything she has been through, her wish for Christmas is a simple one; to enjoy the day, spend time with people who care about her, and feel a sense of belonging.

Sadly, her story is not unique, but with the right support, young people like her can look forward to a brighter future.

When my dad died, everything changed. At Christmas, instead of getting excited like other kids, I felt like I had to look after everyone and make sure things were ok for my mum and my brothers and sisters.
