Simon Community is appealing for individuals and organisations to walk, run or relay for Northern Ireland’s leading homelessness charity at this year’s Belfast Marathon, taking place on Sunday 19th September.
The local charity, which supports over 3,000 people annually is encouraging supporters to take to the pavement, and the flatter route, in aid of homelessness all while having fun along the way by organising corporate and community fundraising initiatives to make every step count.
More than a fun day out, the Belfast Marathon generates much needed funds for the charity’s work in Northern Ireland. Simon Community hopes their supporters will smash previous fundraising efforts and so they can continue vital services based in cities and towns across the country.
Brian Shanks, Corporate Fundraising Manager at Simon Community commented:
The marathon is a fantastic team building experience for businesses, as the training can be done together, as part of an organisation’s Health & Wellbeing strategy or as some friendly office competition. The relay option works well as individuals can participate in a leg of the course making it more manageable for people who are not used to long distance running but who still want to get involved.
Shanks further commented,
Just £70 could go towards 5 Welcome Packs filled with essentials such as a new clean towel, a toothbrush, deodorant and food allowing someone experiencing homelessness for the first time to maintain their dignity and help rebuild their self-esteem.
